The Minded Yoga 6 Week Course is a comprehensive, evidence-based programme for anyone looking to improve their mental, emotional and physical well-being. It is especially helpful for those who suffer with stress, anxiety or depression, but offers all the physical benefits of a regular yoga class too.
The course will:
The course is inspired by, and closely based on, the Yoga Therapy for the Mind 8 Week Course for Stress, Anxiety and Depression, developed by The Minded Institute on the basis of scientific research showing the effects of various yoga practices on the body, brain and autonomic nervous system. Please see here for a brief outline of how the practices in the Minded Yoga 6 Week Course work.
What happens on the course?
The 6 week course is a structured programme of 6 two hour sessions, accompanied by audio recordings of practices and a comprehensive course manual (including psychoeducation about the brain and nervous system, descriptions of practices and how they work, and insights from Buddhism and yoga philosophy).
Each 2 hour session has a different theme (related to breath, body or mind), and comprises the following elements:
Cost of the course
This course also comes with an offer of 50% off a 1.5 hour individual yoga therapy session with Sarah for those who wish to develop a personalised yoga practice or to work on particular physical or mental health concerns (usual price for 1.5 hours is £50 – offer price £25). This session can be taken during the period of the course or for up to 6 months afterwards.
Who is the course suitable for?
The course is suitable for most people. No previous experience of yoga is required. The course will be beneficial for complete beginners as well as those with an established yoga practice. It is also suitable for those who have a regular exercise regime but who may benefit from stretching, relaxation and all the aspects of the course which are geared towards mental and emotional well-being.
The only exception on suitability is people who have current, moderate-severe low back pain and associated restrictions in movement. Whilst the physical practice is relatively gentle, it is not suitable for those with active lower back problems such as herniated discs ('slipped' discs). If you are in any doubt, please just contact me and we can discuss whether the course would be suitable for you and what alternatives might be available.
Blocks, chairs and other supports will be available at both courses, and individual yoga poses can be adapted for different abilities. There is a strong emphasis in all Minded Yoga of working with your own body and moving in a way that feels good for you.
Please contact me if you have any particular physical limitations, recent illnesses or injuries or psychological concerns. I am happy to discuss your particular needs with you in advance and can endeavour to take these into account during the course.
Please see here for answers to some of the questions you might have about the course or about Minded Yoga, or feel free to contact me directly to discuss anything you're not sure about.
